Hello World

How has your summer been going? Me and my families...not so good. It all started with my father having a heart attack and a quadruple bypass surgery in June. He's feeling better now. Then my mom went to the doctors to address a spider bite on her lip shortly after. It wasn't anything serious,though. Then in August,my 14 year old cat buddy Whiskers  passed away. It's been tough,but I'm slowly getting used to it. I'm even looking at other kittens! Throughout all of this going on,I've been going through various bouts of illness,ranging from acid reflux,asthma,serious seasonal allergies,muscle pains,and now a possible sinus infection! So,we haven't been able to spend our Summer as we usually would,but I guess all you can do is count your blessings,pray,and keep looking ahead. =)

May News

Hey,long time no see! How is everyone doing? I figured I would do a random updates post today. I'll be separating each topic into different paragraphs. My dad and I went to a local antiques store to sell some stuff yesterday. We gave her a 1920's light fixture (from our house),a weird shoe "thing" (might be a shoe shining stand),a couple of tourist plates,a butterfly yarn organiser,and a Carmen record set. She gave us $35.00 total,which wasn't bad considering we paid about $3.00 total for everything originally! Here is the link for this antiques shop.

Easter

Happy Easter! I figured I would take some time to post on here tonight. Anyway,we got some nice treats (my favorite was the Adventure Time Lady Rainicorn plushie I got),we had a nice dinner,and we had an excellent dessert! Why do I say excellent,you ask? Well, it consisted of a devil's food chocolate cake,a red velvet cake with vanilla icing,and my favorite,a big ol' cheesecake! =) Well,I guess I'll just post a link for the Lady Rainicorn plushie,and wish you all a Happy Easter!

Mochi Bunny Plushie

I have a hand-sewn bunny I made to show you all!

Isn't he cute! *clears throat* Anyway,he is made out of felt,sewn with embroidery floss,stuffed with polyester stuffing,and he has a yellow sparkly pompom for a tail. Unfortunately,I forgot to take a photo of his tail. My bad.  =)  I got the tutorial for him from HapyFriendsShoppe on Youtube. The name of the tutorial is "How to Make a Kawaii Mochi Plushie Tutorial". It was fairly quick to make,and it was easy to make the adjustments to make him into a bunny! Oh,and the house is all decorated for Easter,and I'm trying to wait patiently for Easter Sunday to get here! My mom is busy in the kitchen,making candy for our relatives (and ourselves). St. Patrick's Day

Hello! I just thought I would do a little St. Patrick's Day post! Anyway,my dad and I celebrated today,by going antiquing. Basically,we went to a flea market and an antique center and did a bit of shopping. It was rather fun,actually. I got a few different things,including various crafting magazines (including a vintage crochet booklet),a box of vintage novelty candles (I have a post on here for a few of the ones we have),a box full of vintage Easter decorations (rather giddy about that),a small pile of Fangoria magazines from the 1980's,a Stephen King Danse Macabre hardcover book (for my mom),a few vintage postcards/advertising cards,three cards of vintage buttons,and....a Ladie's Home Journal magazine from the year 1894!! I really felt like hugging my dad for that one!  =)  Anyway,I'll put the links for everything at the bottom of this post,but there is one more thing I would like to say...

March Snow,and a New Crocheted Blanket

Wow,I can't believe it's March now! Time for St. Patrick's Day,and Easter,because it falls on March 31st this year. That would be the reason behind all the Easter stuff that's already up in the house.  =)  It snowed a few inches more this past weekend,but my dad and I were still able to go browse around the antique shops around here. I got a few postcards,two Garfield Easter ornaments (rather happy about that),a couple Easter bunny plush toys,three pieces of sheet music for $1.00 each (one was originally priced at $25.00! O_O),a vintage spinning top toy that apparently tips over onto its stick if you spin it fast enough (even though I still haven't gotten it to do that) for 0.25 cents,a Sailor Moon VHS tape...etc...etc. Anyway,now onto the crocheted blanket part of this post! I found a photo of a big crocheted granny square blanket on the Internet the other day. I had already seen this idea before,but I never thought I would make myself one. Well,a few days ago,I finally started one! I'm only using machine-washable,worsted (or as close to worsted) weight yarn for it. I already have a fairly good-sized square going,but I've begun to notice something. This is going to take me forever! It takes me quite a while to finish one row...oh,well. Mini Heart Ornament

I crocheted three mini heart ornaments for my family this Valentine's Day. A yellow one for my mom,a dark green one for my dad,and a grey one for my oldest brother,Paulie. They were rather quick and easy to make,so I've decided to post the pattern! First,I would like to get this out of the way.

Heart Guy Plushie

This is my Heart Guy.

The second one shows him hanging from the kitchen cabinets. I hand sewed him a while ago,but I decided it was close enough to Valentine's Day to show him off.  =)  I gave him loop arms and legs.so he can hang off of things. He is made out of recycled plastic felt,embroidery floss,and yarn for his embroidered face. I ended up stuffing him with yarn,because I couldn't find my stuffing at the time. Now,when it comes to my "no desire to craft" problem,I think I'm pretty much cured now! I've been doing origami (Japanese paper folding),and I've been making various sewn plushies. Well,I guess I'll be going now.

Cold January Moon

These are all photos I took of the moon last might. It was about 21 degrees Fahrenheit at the time. Tonight it's supposed to get down to 3 degrees Fahrenheit! 0_0 I guess I'll be using an extra blanket!  =)  Anyway,I'm sorry I haven't been on here in awhile. I had a bit of a creative block after the holidays,but I'm slowly getting out of it,which is great! Well,I guess that's it.

New Year's Eve...

I have to admit,some things in 2012 weren't the best,but we did have some good times. For example,we did have a white Christmas,which hasn't happened in awhile. Not only that,but we still have that snow,and more!  =)  I wonder if I'll be more organized,when it comes to the yarn stash this coming year...yeah right!!  =)  Anyway,I would like to wish you all a happy and safe New Year!

Night Before,the Night Before

Here is another little update,written in December 23rd,2012. The majority of the leftover decorations are up,my bedroom is decorated half-way,all the cookies have been baked (except for the candy,which was cancelled),the house is somewhat clean,I have a bag of bows for gift decorating,5 out of 6 of my gifts have been crocheted,my dad and I went around town tonight looking at Christmas lights,and we had pizza for dinner. Well,okay,the last one doesn't really count. The pizza was good,though! Anyway,as I said I have one gift left. It's for my dad,and I'm hoping he will like it!  =) Well,I guess that's it,for now.

I got this tape from the Salvation Army for 29 cents,and my mom and I decided to watch it. One project in particular caught our eyes. It was a project on how to make ornaments from Styrofoam and fabric. Without giving away the whole tutorial,you basically stab fabric into the Styrofoam ball,all the way around. This got me thinking. I was wondering if you could take this tutorial,and make a Christmas tree? So,I went to AcMoore and Walmart,and I got a Styrofoam cone,half a yard of green fabric,and a wire stem silver star. I got to work,and the entire process took about four days,off and on. My mom glued on the circle of felt onto the base of the tree,and it was done. Here it is!

I also made a crochet chain garland for it. Overall,I enjoyed to process,except for one little detail. This was very messy! I ended up with fabric bits and Styrofoam all over my lap every time I worked on this! It was fun,though.  =) Now here is a little update. Some of the cookies have been baked,the temperature is getting closer to the coldness of snow,and I still have three gifts to crochet by Christmas. Oh,and I still have yet to decorate my bedroom. Not too much to do,right?  =) Here are the links for everything.

Wow!

I can't believe how close we are to Christmas! The majority of the Christmas decorations are up,and the outside of the house is all lit up. My mom thinks the outdoor decorations make the house look like something out of the fifties. As for gifts,I have managed to finish crocheting a frog for my mom,a Christmas wreath for my Grandpa,and a little ornament with a smiley face on it for my cousin Kate. I say managed,because I haven't felt very good for the past three days. I can't figure out if it's just my allergies going haywire,or if it's a cold of some sort. Who knows? Anyway,I'll just leave you with a short,parting message. I think I need a nap.

December Birthday

Today is my Birthday! =) Sorry,I had to do it. Anyway,I turned 19 years old today. One of my aunts says I'm 8 years old.  =)  I just finished doing a little shopping around town with my dad. I got three scarves from the Dollar Tree,a couple books,two Sailor Moon vhs tapes,and a crochet blanket kit at Salvation Army,and a couple of magazines at Barnes and Noble! I guess you can tell I had a good time. I had pizza for dinner,and I'm going to have ice cream cake for dessert. Well,I guess that's it for now. Christmas Tree

Here is a photo of our Christmas tree.

I'm sorry it's so dark. You can click on the photo to make it larger. It only has the lights and star on it so far,but I hope it will be decorated by my Birthday. My Birthday is December 4th,so I guess we will have to kick it into high gear! We have quite a few ornaments,if you're wondering. Anyway,we also have a few other Christmas decorations up,but not too many just yet. I'm also in the process of figuring out what to make for people this year. I think I'll make less gifts this year,though (personal opinion). Oh,here is another thing about this tree. The tree and I are the same age! Craft Fair Results

We seemed to lift that sense of dread that we had on our shoulders yesterday,because we did quite nicely today. We made $81.00 total! That's great for us,considering that we only managed to sell very little at the other craft fair this month. Not only that,my mom and I managed to spot a girl wearing a crocheted scarf I sold two years ago at a craft fair,and she remembered that she got it from our table! I was rather pleased by that.  =)  We didn't buy anything other than some baked goods. I also managed to crochet a little plushie wreath while we were selling stuff! Here she is!

Craft Fair...

Well. Today has been a little off,to say the least. Usually when I go to a craft fair with my mom I'm all giddy the night before,but something doesn't seem right. I even ended up taking apart that snowman I was making! O_O  Oh,well. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.  =)  Anyway,I have another needle felted critter to show you in the mean time!

He is a needle felted hamburger! I made up the design myself. I ended up learning a new technique while I made him! The stripes on him for the mustard,lettuce,and burger are lengths of yarn felted on! I know,I may be a little too happy about that,but hey,I'm a beginner! I also embroidered on his face with yarn. The yarn I used for his stripes and face are Red Heart Super Saver,Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Peace and Love,AcMoore Fashion Mill Ends,and Lion Brand Wool-Ease. Turkeys!...and an Update
